Customize your calendar

Make your calendar fit your week: should it start on Monday, should times read 14:00 or 2:00 PM, should finished tasks stay on the calendar? You can customize your calendar however you like; in four steps we show you how to set it up.

Your calendar is one of the places you look at most during the day; when it fits the way you work, planning becomes a pleasure too. Maybe you like to see your week hour by hour, maybe you want to see at a glance where your working day starts and ends, or maybe you prefer your events to look neat and tidy on busy days. You can set all of this up on the Calendar page in Settings.

Every change you make is saved instantly and stored in your account, so your calendar opens with the same settings on every device you sign in from. All of it is available on the Free plan. Let's go through it in four steps.

1
Open the calendar settings
Open Settings and, in the list on the left, click Calendar under the Modules group. Everything you need to customize your calendar is right here on this page. And you don't have to bother with saving: an option is saved the moment you change it, and the Saved notification that appears on screen lets you know.

Choose the view and the first day of the week
In Default View you can choose which view greets you when you open the calendar. If you plan your day hour by hour, Weekly will suit you better; if you like to look at the big picture of the month, go for Monthly. If you change your mind, no problem: while you're in the calendar, you can switch at any time with the Month and Week buttons at the top. This setting decides which view you see every time you open the calendar.
Which day the week starts on is also a matter of habit: some people start their week on Monday, others on Sunday. In Week Start you can pick Monday, Sunday or Saturday. Your choice applies to the monthly and weekly views and to the small calendar in the side panel at the same time, so your calendar looks the way you're used to everywhere.

Choose the time format and work hours
In Time Format you can choose between 24 Hour (14:00) and 12 Hour (2:00 PM). Your choice shows up at the same time in the hour column of the weekly view, in the times on event cards and in the calendar widgets on the Overview page.
Seeing the limits of your working day on the calendar makes planning your day feel easier. In Work Hours, choose the Start and End of your day; in the weekly view this range is lightly shaded and its hours are shown darker. So when you're deciding where to put a meeting, you can see at a glance where your working day begins and ends. This setting doesn't restrict you: you can still add events outside your work hours whenever you like.

Adjust the card size and display options
Would you rather see everything on one screen in a busy month, or have your events easy to read? With the slider in Event Card Size you can set the height of the cards in the monthly view accordingly. The further you drag it towards Compact, the shorter the cards get and the more of the month fits on the screen; the further you drag it towards Wide, the bigger the cards get and the easier they are to read. The sample card on the left shows the size you choose instantly. This setting applies on a computer; on a phone, cards have a fixed size.
The two switches in the Display section let you keep your calendar simple. When Week Numbers is on, a Week Calendar appears in the side panel showing which week of the year you're in; if you track projects or a school term by weeks, you no longer have to work out which week it is. If you don't want finished tasks crowding your calendar, turn off Completed Events: events you've marked as completed disappear from view. They aren't deleted; when you turn the switch back on, they're all still there.

Frequently asked questions

I switched to Week in the calendar, but when I opened it again it showed the monthly view. Why?

The Month and Week buttons in the calendar only change the current view. When you open the calendar again from the menu, the Default View in Settings applies. If you want the calendar to always open in the weekly view, set Default View to Weekly.

I changed my work hours, but nothing changed in the monthly view. Why?

Work hours are only shown in the weekly view, because that's the view that lays out the hours row by row. The setting has no effect in the monthly view. To see the change, switch to Week in the calendar.

If I hide completed events, are they deleted?

No. When you turn the switch off, events you've marked as completed only become invisible; they're also left out of the list that appears when you link an event to a note. When you turn the switch back on, they're all still there.

How are week numbers calculated?

According to the international ISO 8601 standard: the first week of the year is the week that contains the year's first Thursday. Even if you set Week Start to Sunday or Saturday, week numbers are still calculated according to this standard.

Do my settings apply on my other devices too?

Yes. Your calendar settings are saved to your account; when you sign in with the same account on another computer or a phone, your calendar opens with the same settings.

Do I need a paid plan for this?

No. All the options on the calendar settings page are available on every plan, including Free.
