Chat with Pumpy to ask about your calendar, notes and spending, or to have it add an event or a note for you. Your conversations are saved and stay the same on all your devices: you can start a chat on your computer and pick it up on your phone. To work with Pumpy on text you select in a note, see Pumpy: your AI assistant.

Open the chat
You can reach Pumpy from a few places:
- On desktop, click the Pumpy icon in the top bar. The Pumpy panel opens on the right and stays open while you work.
- Click Pumpy in the sidebar. The chat opens on the full-screen Pumpy page.
- Press Ctrl+K (⌘K on Mac) to open the search window, type your question and choose the Ask Pumpy row at the end of the list. Pumpy takes your question right away and starts answering; on a narrow screen this row opens the Pumpy page.
- On a tablet and in narrow windows, the Pumpy icon in the top bar opens the Pumpy page directly instead of the panel. On your phone this icon sits in the menu that opens when you tap your profile picture in the top right; tap it and the Pumpy page opens.
To give a chat in the panel more room, click the Open full screen icon in the top corner of the panel. The same chat opens on the Pumpy page, right where you left off.

Start with a suggestion or ask your own question
A new chat opens with the question "How can I help you today?" and a few suggestions. Their order depends on where you are: calendar suggestions come first when you're in the calendar, note suggestions when you're in your notes. Click one, or type your own question in the field below and press Enter. Shift+Enter starts a new line.
If you use the panel while a note is open, Pumpy knows which note you're in. When you say "Summarize this note", it reads that note and answers. We have collected examples of what you can ask Pumpy in What you can ask Pumpy: example requests.

Approve changes
When Pumpy wants to add or change an event, a note or a transaction, it first shows you an approval card. Nothing changes until you press Approve; if you don't want the change, press Decline. If Pumpy is going to rewrite a note from scratch, the card shows the warning "This replaces the whole content of the note." You'll find what Pumpy can and can't do in Pumpy: your AI assistant.

Go back to your past conversations
All your conversations are on the Pumpy page, in the Conversations list on the left, with the most recent one at the top. Click one and it opens on the right, so you can carry on where you left off. On your phone, open the list with the list icon in the top bar of the Pumpy page.
A conversation gets its name from the first message you send in it. When you want to move on to a new topic, press New chat; the panel has the same option below the chat. Whichever chat is open in the panel, the Pumpy page opens with that same chat.

Delete your conversations
To delete a conversation, hover over it in the list on the Pumpy page and click the trash icon that appears on its right. Next to the open conversation this icon is always visible, so you can delete from there on your phone too. When you press Delete on the question "Delete this conversation? This cannot be undone.", the conversation is deleted and cannot be restored.
If you want to delete them all at once, press Delete all conversations in the Conversations section of the Settings > Pumpy page and choose Delete in the confirmation. Your conversations in this workspace are deleted from all your devices; your conversations in other workspaces are not touched. A conversation you don't use for 90 days is also deleted automatically.

Very long conversations fill up at some point. When a conversation reaches the 400-message limit (the data lookups Pumpy makes along the way count too), you see the warning "This conversation is full. Start a new one." Press New chat to carry on; the old conversation stays in your list.
Frequently asked questions
Do my conversations show up on my phone too?
Yes. Your conversations aren't stored on your device; they're stored encrypted in Pumpynotes. Whatever device you sign in from, as long as it's the same account and the same workspace, you see the same list on the Pumpy page. Each workspace has its own conversations; when you switch to another workspace, that workspace's conversations are listed.
Can my teammates or an admin see my conversations?
No. Only you can see your conversations. On team plans, the workspace owner or an admin can only see how much of this month's Pumpy allowance each member has used, shown as a percentage; they can't see what your conversations say. You'll find more in Manage Pumpy for your team.
Can I rename a conversation?
Not at the moment. A conversation's name is created automatically from the first message you send in it. If you want to find a conversation easily in the list, state the topic clearly in your first message.
What does "One moment, the previous request is still running" mean?
Pumpy does one thing for you at a time. If you send a new request before an answer has finished, for example from another tab or from the Pumpy box in a note, you see this warning. You'll also see it if you send a lot of requests within a minute. Wait a few seconds and try again.
Does chatting use up my allowance?
Yes. Every answer from Pumpy uses some of your Pumpy allowance; long answers and questions that require reading a lot of data use more. You can see how much you have used this month in the Usage section at the bottom of the panel and on the Settings > Pumpy page. You'll find how your allowance renews and how to buy extra credits in Track your Pumpy allowance and buy extra credits.
Which language does Pumpy answer in?
Pumpy answers in whatever language you write to it in. Ask in English and it answers in English; ask in Spanish and it answers in Spanish.
