A wallet keeps each place your money lives separate: your bank account, the cash in your pocket, your credit card. In three steps we show how to add, edit and delete a wallet, and what happens to its transactions when you delete it.
Your money isn't in one place: your salary lands in your bank account, you carry some cash, and you shop with a credit card. A wallet keeps each of these separate. Every transaction is recorded in a wallet, each wallet shows its own balance, and Total balance on the Finance screen brings them all together.
Let's go through adding, editing and deleting a wallet, step by step. All your wallets live in the panel on the left of the Finance screen, on the Wallets tab.
1
Add a new wallet
On the Wallets tab, click the Add wallet + button above the list and give your wallet a name. In the first box to the left of the name you can pick an icon, for example š¦ for your bank account or šµ for the cash in your pocket. In the box next to it, the one marked "A", you pick a color. The color you choose shows up in the name field right away, so you can tell your wallets apart at a glance in the list.
If the wallet already holds money, enter today's amount in Opening balance (optional); leave it empty and the wallet starts from zero. Finally, choose the Currency and click Create. Fill in these two fields carefully: neither can be changed once the wallet is created.
Adding a new wallet is available on Pro and higher plans. On the Free plan, a wallet called Cash is set up for you the first time you open Finance, and that is your one wallet. You can change its name, icon and color as in step two and use it for your bank account or your card. It starts with a zero balance; you can enter the money you already have by adding an income transaction.
Keeping wallets in a currency other than your main one is also available on Pro and higher plans; we explain how to keep a euro or pound account separate in Multi-currency budget tracking. The Sharing section at the bottom of the window can only be used on Business and Enterprise plans; on other plans it appears faded.

Edit a wallet
When you move your mouse over a wallet's row, two small buttons appear on the right. Click the pencil icon, or right-click the row and choose Edit. In the window that opens, change the wallet's name, icon and color and click Save; the new look shows up right away both in the list and next to your transactions.
Balance and currency look faded in this window because neither can be changed. You don't type the balance; Pumpynotes calculates it from your transactions. That's why the amount in the Opening balance field isn't the figure you first entered but the wallet's current balance. The currency is the unit of every transaction in the wallet; if it changed later, your past transactions would show the wrong amounts. If the balance needs a correction, you'll find what to do in the Frequently asked questions section below.

Delete a wallet
To delete a wallet you no longer use, hover over its row and click the trash icon, or right-click the row and choose Delete. Pumpynotes asks Delete wallet?; when you click Delete, the wallet disappears from the list.
There's one thing you should know before deleting: the wallet doesn't go alone. It moves to the Trashtogether with all its transactions, so the deleted wallet's transactions no longer affect your totals and charts. Depending on your plan, the transactions stay in the trash for 7 to 30 days, and during that time you can restore them one by one. The wallet itself doesn't come back, though; the transactions you restore return without being linked to any wallet. You'll find the details in Restore something you deleted from the trash.
If you'd rather take a wallet out of the totals on screen for a while instead of deleting it, click the eye icon on the left of its row. It's only a filter and deletes nothing; it does the same job as the Wallet filter in the filter bar. We explain which numbers the wallet filter changes in Filter your transactions by date and category.

Frequently asked questions
I entered the wrong opening balance. How do I fix it?
The balance field can't be changed once the wallet is created, so you close the gap with a transaction. If the balance is lower than it should be, add an income for the difference; if it's higher, add an expense. Naming it something like "Balance adjustment" makes it easier to spot later. Keep in mind that this transaction also counts toward that month's income or expense total; if you save it without a category, at least it won't affect your budgets.
Can I change a wallet's currency later?
No, the currency is chosen when you create the wallet and doesn't change afterwards. If you need another currency, create a new wallet in that currency. Choosing a currency other than your main one is available on Pro and higher plans.
What happens if I delete my only wallet?
Every new transaction you add is recorded in a wallet, so Pumpynotes never leaves you without one. The moment you delete your last wallet, a new wallet called Cash with a zero balance is created automatically. You can change its name, icon and color as in step two.
How many wallets can I have?
On the Free plan your one wallet is the Cash wallet set up the first time you open Finance; to add a new wallet you need to upgrade your plan. On Pro and higher plans there's no limit on the number of wallets.
Does clicking the eye icon delete my wallet?
No. The eye icon only narrows what you see on screen: the transactions of the wallet you turn off drop out of the list, and its balance drops out of the total balance. The wallet and its transactions stay where they are; click the icon again and everything comes back.
Can I share my wallet with someone?
Yes, on Business and Enterprise plans. From the Sharing section in the wallet window you can share your wallet with people in your workspace and let them either only view it or also add and edit transactions. Settings such as the wallet's name, color and deletion always stay with you.
