You do not have to walk through menus to find a note. Press Ctrl + K (on a Mac, Cmd + K) and a box opens in the middle of the screen: your notes, events, transactions, wallets, categories and tags gather in one list. The same box moves you between pages and creates new records, so it works as search and command line at once.
1
Open search
Wherever you are, press Ctrl + K. If you would rather use the mouse, the Search button in the top bar opens the same box; the shortcut is printed on the button.
Pressing the same shortcut while the box is open closes it, so Ctrl + K works as a toggle.

Before you type: ready-made commands
You do not have to type at all: the moment the box opens, three groups are waiting: Go to (Overview, Calendar, Notes, Finance, Settings), Create (note, event, transaction) and Settings (profile, appearance, workspace, language, notifications, security, billing).
So for a new note you do not have to open the notes page and hunt for a button: Ctrl + K, then Enter. To set the app's landing page up your way, see Set up your Overview page.

Start searching
From the second letter on, your own content joins the list. Search runs at once over note titles, event names, transaction names and descriptions, and the names of wallets, categories and tags. Results are grouped by where they come from, with at most five records per group.
Search follows the letters of your language: upper and lower case make no difference to the result.

Arrow keys to move, Enter to open
You move through the list with the up and down arrows; the selected row is marked with a yellow background. Enter opens the selected record, Esc closes the box. You reach the note you were after without lifting your hands off the keyboard.
Picking a result takes you straight there: the note opens, the event is shown on the calendar, the transaction is found on the finance page.
Search only looks at records in your own workspace, and refreshes the data each time it opens. So the note you added a minute ago turns up too.
Frequently asked questions
Which key on a Mac?
Cmd + K. On Windows and Linux, Ctrl + K. Both shortcuts open the same box, and there is nothing to set up.
Does it search inside note text?
For now notes are matched on their titles; events on their name, transactions on name and description, and wallets, categories and tags on their name. Searching the full text of a note is on the list of things to come.
Is it there on a phone?
Yes. A phone has no keyboard shortcut, so you tap the search icon in the top bar; the box opens to fit the screen and gives the same results. Everything about moving around on a small screen is in Pumpynotes on phone and tablet.
What if the record I want is not in the list?
First, you need at least two letters; below that the box does not search your content. If the results are still not the one you want, add a few more letters, the list narrows with every keystroke.
